The Onejuly Approach

Based on many years of working with independently owned optometry practices and groups, onejuly has refined and developed a unique proprietary approach that has been proven to be most effective in bringing about sustainable performance improvement. There are several aspects of this approach that help create this distinction and success.
Change Management Approach
Our program is effective because we focus on all threeof the essential elements of the change process:
Why – building awareness amongst owners and team members of the need for change and ensure that everyone is fully engaged in the process
What – providing proven and implementable strategies to bring profitable and sustainable growth
How – supplying the tools and practical support needed to fully implement these changes and to help sustain them over time
Industry Knowledge & Experience within a Broader Context
We have been working in this industry over many years so we are well aware of the issues and trends that face optometry businesses, and, importantly we know what works. Therefore our knowledge is practical and grounded, not based on untested theories.
Having said that, industry myopia can be one of the biggest limiting factors. From our ongoing work across related industries, we maintain a finger on the pulse of new ideas and paradigms and use this knowledge to cross fertilise our ideas for optometry.
Focus on Mindset as much as Skill set
In an industry led by highly trained medical professionals it is understandable that there is a high value placed on learning and developing new skills. What is most limiting to the effective adoption of these skills however is the accompanying mindset.
The most common response we hear is “we tried that but it didn’t work”. For change to work and take hold, there must be an appreciation of the rationale behind it and a belief in its merit. Without this, change is seen as risky or undesirable, initiatives are undermined, and the status quo is maintained.
Accordingly we use a coaching methodology to work both on skill set and mindset, enhancing the effectiveness of our training and advice.
Focus on the Whole Team, not just the Leader
Another characteristic within this industry is that most of the business training is focused solely on the practice owner and not other staff who are equally critical to the success of new initiatives.
Knowledge & skill transfer is not handled well in these circumstances as the key engagement step is often missed completely, resulting in under skilled or under informed staff trying to implement changes that they don’t fully understand or believe in.
Our approach starts and finishes with the whole team and engages both the leader and the team in the learning > design > implementation cycle.
Leveraging off the Group
One of the key methodologies we have developed is to be able to work effectively with individual practices in a group environment. By moulding separate practices into cohesive clusters, we are able to not only leverage the delivery costs but also embrace the power of peer learning, camaraderie and support, one of the elements commonly missing in the micro business environment.
As trained coaches, we specialise in managing fears about competition and privacy within the cluster so that the strength of the group can be fully realised.
